I’ve heard many people express interest in working for the new conglomerate, MillerCoors, that is to be headquartered in Chicago. Let me tell you, it is DIFFICULT to get a position in a major consumer goods company that is actually headquartered in a ‘cool’ city. As such, spots will be competitive. If MillerCoors is one of your target companies, I recommend that you start finding networking events where you might be able to meet some influential people in that organization.
For instance, i recently received an email regarding an upcoming event in the Chicago area where the Chief Communications Officer for MillerCoors will speak. Consider attending the event (details below) if you want to find out more about the company and get a ‘leg up’ on your competition for jobs.

Communications Strategies for integrating two major brands
Nehl Horton, chief communications and government affairs officer for MillerCoors, will be the featured speaker at the monthly luncheon of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). Responsible for company communications with internal and external audiences, including all levels of government, Horton will discuss how the MillerCoors communications team kept employees focused on the formation of the second largest beer company in the country. He also will outline external communications strategies for distributor partners, analysts and the media, as well as how his team reassured the hometown communities for both the Millers and Coors Brewing Companies, despite moving the corporate headquarters to Chicago. The presentation will be held on March 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Maggiano’s at 516 N. Clark Street in Chicago. For more information or to register, visit www.iabcchicago.com.

A job seeker who was interested to work for MillerCoors could skip a ton of work and the protection of many gatekeepers just by attending this event. I am sure that in the audience, other influencers for MillerCoors Chicago will also attend, and if the BNC is involved, there will be an ample supply of professionals to meet with as well. Thanks, Christy, for exposing such an outstanding networking opportunity.
